Hi All.

This has caught me a little by surprise! (I don't keep a close eye on the
mailing lists, I'm afraid. ;-) )

I set up the forum as a draft of what an OSM forum could look like under
phpBB. My initial goal was to get a phpBB extension working that was
designed to satisfy the needs of email devotees to existing forum systems -
in the end, I don't think its a workable solution.

I tried all the way along to avoid the appearance of excessively pushing for
an OSM forum - I strongly feel it is a community-based decision, not mine at
all.

There could be long drawn out discussions on what would be the most suitable
system to use, where to host it and who should administer it. Perhaps the
fact that it is there and being used already is a pragmatic reason enough to
keep it going - although if there are considerations to change the system,
I'd be happy to follow the wishes of OSM contributors.

I am very pleased (proud!) that people have discovered it and started to use
it - and now even has an OSM address! - but would not like to give the
impression that I have bulldozed the issue in any way. Again, it was set up
as a draft to trial a specific Forum-to-Email extension that was then judged
to be insufficient to needs.

I am happy to administer the forum for as long as OSM think its a good idea.
