That is brilliant, and it makes all the hard work that people are doing 
with adding the road classes worthwhile.

I guess similar coding could be built into the main 
ruby/api/wms/streets.rbx code.

(which at the moment draws everything in the same thickness of black, 
and then draws everything in a slightly thinner white)

One thing I was thinking was selectively rendering streets based on the 
zoom level, so at large scales, it would render class=motorway, then 
class=motorway and class=primary, the motorway, primary and secondary, 
then everything else.

but I know very little about ruby, or the Magick, or cairo graphics 
libraries.
