Press ALT and click on the street (as described in the comprehensive
manual at http://wiki.eigenheimstrasse.de/wiki/JOSM/User_Manual *chrm* ;-)

Yes, this is not possible (yet). It is one of the top features to
implement (just next to reassigning a line segment to new nodes without
deleting the line segment).
