I can claim mapping of footpaths that are not on Ordnance Survey maps 
(e.g. a rather nice, evident on the ground, but non-waymarked water meadow 
walk south of Stockbridge, Hampshire, England). But I think that's because 
the OS simply don't include many non-official routes, rather than being 
brand new. 

This is one area where OSM could excel. I can think of a few other 
examples OTOH - for example the OS will not show you a fairly direct path 
from the town of Petersfield to the prominent summit of Butser Hill just 
outside.
