Yer but, no; but, yer but...: Ferry routes don't "represent any aspect 
of the physical landscape" either - but you wouldn't want to miss them 
from OSM would you?

...and, seeing as GPS trace size is mostly a function of time; my flight 
from LGW to ALC (2 hours) will use up much less server space than the 
Plymouth-Santander ferry (21 hours).

I am not saying render it - just allow it to be collected.
