Yup, this is normally the way I do things. "Would I find this thing on
an OS map"?

Of course OS maps don't pretend to be comprehensive for this sort of
thing which is part of the difference. If I come across a pub, I might
mark it in OSM as pubs can be useful navigation landmarks (as can, say,
post offices). But I wouldn't put a lot of effort into putting all the
pubs in Oxford I know about on OSM as opposed to, say, OpenGuides[0] ;)
