I agree here as well .. the core problems are with our limited rendering and db infrastructure. 

One advantage to the applet is that it display everyone's collected GPS traces. (When the tile server is responsive of course)
I know there's different philosophies about editing over other's traces .. collected traces are ideal after something like a weekend
workshop.

I'm going to have more time in the coming months. Is the Flash editor code in SVN?
