Agreed. Since you can get GPS traces from the API anyway (and,  
inevitably, the Flash editor has its own private API for speed) it  
needn't be dependent on tile.

Still a bit too embryonic, but it will be when it's a bit more  
fully-formed - I want to get the initial design principles down first  
(sorry, sounds awfully autocratic, but I think a clear starting point  
is essential for a n00b-friendly webapp). I will warn you that my  
coding style is a bit of an '80s throwback though - still haven't  
really progressed much beyond the Z80. :)
