Absolutely, Flash and AJAX themselves don't confer any great
development advantages over a Java solution - indeed, there are some
significant disadvantages.
However, a new editor written with n00b-usability in mind can improve
our situation, no matter what the platform; and using Flash will
extend our reach to some users who currently can't use OSM tools.
There's no reason why the Java applet can't also be further improved
if there are coders willing to work on it.
