Depends on how the author is using it. If he's just calling the
command-line executable, then no, his code does not need to be GPL'd.
Also, exiv2 has a commercial license option.

I've emailed the author over the past couple of years offering to help
on dev, or carry it on, etc. Each time the author has said he's
"working on it some more". Perhaps time to just create a new,
Open-Source, Cocoa project :)
