On a normal computer, there is enough space to display a small
(transparent) logo in the bottom right corner of the map (around 80x15 px,
near scale). People rarely go and read the readme or about screen the
first time they see an application. PDAs and other small devices have
indeed no space to permanently display a logo. It could be placed in the
startup screen (if any) or indeed just in the about page.
I think it's important that "ordinary" people know where the data comes
from. For OS applications using the data, requirements to display a logo
could be less strict. We could also add something like
"If the logo is bigger than x % of the map area, it may be placed outside
the map. If the logo is bigger than x % of the screen size, it may be just
displayed at startup or in an about screen."
to the license.
After all, the logo just serves an educational (OS and private projects)
and "name and shame" purpose in commercial projects. We should provide
enough sizes (horizontal, vertical, square, small and big) and variations
(transparent, color schemes) that adding a logo to a map is an easy task.
