Batik 1.6 on Windows works for me on all data files that I've tried, but
I've not tried the area described in the Howto page.

If I use a smaller .osm file from JOSM, depending on the data set, I get
> error messages like
> "Cannot find the referenced element: #parking" with no PNG being

I added a rule for parking (lines 434-436 of osm-map-features.xml) but
somehow forgot to add the SVG definition of the Parking symbol.  Delete
lines 434 to 436 and this problem will go away.
