Loading, panning and zooming of this file takes about 1 second for me using
FF on Windows.  Are you using Linux perhaps?  How slow is _extremely_ slow?
5 seconds? 30 seconds?

(Btw, Firefox 2 display text in SVG. An RC1 was released a few days ago)
