I hate to admit it but that doesn't work because close-areas.pl does not 
use a proper XML parser ;-) Frollo outputs XML with whole ways on one 
line like this

<way id="x"><seg id="a"><seg id="b">...

and close-areas.pl, parsing using regular expressions, expects newlines 
there.

Other than that, the idea sounds quite good, I'll see if I can fix 
close-areas.pl without drawing in tons of Perl modules.
