So make it http://www.openstreetmap.org/uid/1000, then, with no possible 
conflict between user/<screen name> and uid/<numeric id>. But still the 
API would have to tell us the numeric id of the anonymous users. To me, 
this does not seem to violate the user's privacy, does anybody disagree?
