OK, so doing a few tests with doing:
Nodes:
ncn_ref -- render red number
rcn_ref -- render cyan number
lcn_ref -- render blue number
Ways:
as before
I find that as long as the ways don't have refs of their own it works
pretty well.

Unfortunately the present node tagging is a little inconsistant:
- a lot of nodes either haven't been entered, or have been entered as
relations so I can't find them yet.
- there are a fair number of nodes tagged ncn_ref that I think should
be rcn_ref (ie: node 45637472 which is tagged "ncn_ref=Knooppunt 10")
- there are about 40 nodes with a *cn_ref tag in the planet which I
think have been accidentally tagged (a few in the UK, USA)
I'll see what happens on the full render and go from there.
