I'm sure this email will set alarms off everywhere!!! :-)
You are referring to an out-of-copyright map, of course? We cannot use
any copyrighted material in OSM.
But you knew that anyway, yes?

Hi,
I'm sure this must be an FAQ but I can't find the answer anywhere: is
there any automated way to convert a scanned map to osm format? Or, if
it's not possible to fully automate, are there any tools for Linux which
will allow me to trace over a scanned map and save the output in osm
format? (I have a relatively clean map with just road outlines, and a
scattering of known gpx points to anchor it physically)
