You are approaching tagging from the wrong direction. When tagging, you
shouldn't be thinking "I want abutter rendering", you should be thinking
"What is this road?". The various cartographers in charge of the various
maps (freemap, OSM Mapnik layer, OSM osmarender layer and hopefully many
others in future) should be thinking "I want abutter rendering" or "I
don't want abutter rendering" and should have enough information in the
tagging to decide weather or not to draw it.
In future, if someone like an Estate Agent want's to use our maps on
their site, they may want to do something like show residential streets
in a very different colour to show prospective buyers the kind of road
the house they are looking at is on. They may want to display the
information in a search listing not even on a map at all. e.g:
House: 100 High Street, Cityville
Bedrooms: 3
Road type: Residential
They should be able to derive that result from our data.
