I would see residential as being lesser in status, therefore if anything I
would make it slightly thinner, but leave the border as the same

I'm not shore how to easily tell them apart in a city, but next time you map
a village check out the side streets relative to a threw road. They are
different more than in just the thickness of the road. Its the way in wich
people use them. People would play football in the road, park along the
road making passing hard, lorries would stop and unload in them without fear
of holding up traffic etc etc. Its quite tricky to state set rules that
would make 1 residential, and 1 not. But its clear what is what when your
on one I think (at least in a village it is anyway).
In short, I don't think an unclassified can be made into how I would use
residential with exsisting additonal tags.
I would go about discribing a residential road as " A road that is, in the
majority of instances, only used by the residence living on that road, or
people visiting then ". Disscuss...?
