[OSM-talk] Contributors of an area

Hi,

I want to start a new thread on a subject that has arisen in the "OSM layer
into Illustrator" thread.

Question is: How can I know the names/nicks of the contributors to a certain
area?

Specific question: How can I know what people worked on Baghdad, so I can
credit them on TV? (see entire thread)

As far as I know, the weekly planet.osm does not carry contributor
information, and I cannot query the API either. And the contributor
information about an area is important when publishing the maps along with a
booklet full of contributor names and the CC license.

So:

Are there plans to extend the API and allow programmatical fetch of that info?

Should be there privacy concerns with that kind of API?

Should we personally ask SteveC for the contributors of a given area in such
an event?

Cheers,
