Hmm, I'll try that. When I actually did try exporting Baghdad as a 5Mb
SVG file, Illustrator (on a dual Xeon with 8Gb Ram) took a looong time
to import the data, and then everything came through mostly
transparent/background colour. Not sure why yet.

Just to go back to the original technical question: my Illustrator (v10
- I don't have CS1 or CS2) will open the file but screws up the text on
roads (text on a path) - the characters are in the right place, but all
vertical.
The way around this is to open the SVG in Inkscape, save it in EPS from
there, and then open the EPS in Illustrator.
This is also a much better route for getting PDFs and images out - the
EPS can be opened in Photoshop too at a specific size and resolution.
