I've just updated the graphical and other stats and thanks to Dean Earley
taken into account the current actual live data in the last Planet file (10
Jan).
Graphical and User stats updates are at:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Stats
There are a few observations worth noting:
1. There has been no increase in the trendline for number of registered
users. However more users than ever before are editing and uploading so we
are converting more users to active users than we were. Considering the fact
that the project should be gaining visibility with time its disappointing
that the registered user trend has not been climbing like the other activity
within the project. Ideas on how we might draw in new users would be good.
2. Its clear that over Christmas/New Year period the numbers editing has
gone up while the number of users uploading has gone down. The former I
believe is due to the presence of the Yahoo! imagery
3. Its very likely the GPS point database will contain 50 million individual
points by the end of this week or soon afterwards. That's quite an
achievement.
4. The current daily stats reports have always included deleted data.
Hopefully we can get this properly reporting only live data when the stuff
SteveC is working on gets implemented. However in the meantime its worth
pointing out that as at 10 Jan the actual live data is as per the Current
Statistics page (http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Current_statistics)
5. For those that missed the dropping of the TIGER data, this results in a
huge drop in the size of the Planet file (which only contains live data). As
a result, and until someone can get to it, the graphical node/seg/way stats
graphs are best used for comparative info on a month to month basis rather
than as a true snapshot.
6. The top 100 users table has also been updated with the month data from
the end of December. Again, it's not a very reliable summary and with the
increase in users editing each month I've asked SteveC if he can quickly
increase the top 30 to top 50 or more for the day/week/month cycle so that
we can track a greater list of users.
Cheers
Andy
