[OSM-talk] Way missing a segment

Inspired by the recent discussions of oneway and splitting
ways, I want to split the A404 from High Wycombe to Amersham
(to mark the bit past the police station and library in HW
as one way).

Even if I download when quite zoomed out JOSM marks the way as
incomplete. At first I thought it was discontiguous and maybe
the other part was in Alaska or somewhere but when I tried to
split it anyway I got the message:

Data error: segment 18,206,277 is deleted but part of Way
     4,104,299.

Indeed, using the API through Firefox to fetch the way shows it
does include that segment but fetching the segment gives:

> Gone
>
> The requested resource
> /ruby/api/0.3/segment.rb
> is no longer available on this server and there is no forwarding address. Please remove all references to this resource.

(which is slightly misleading because it's presumably not
segment.rb that's gone, fetching another segment works fine).

Anyway, how should one go about getting rid of a segment which
is not there? Using wget to GET and PUT the way with a text
edit in between would presumably work but is there a nicer
method?

Ed.
