Is it most popular relative to its size?  I'm up for mapping a national 
park, but the Lake District is the Largest one, so its jumping in at the 
deep end.  As you said It's very popular walking area, so mapping all the 
footways and bridleways etc would be a very very large job.  Its also 
furthest away for the majory of UK osm users.  Peak District is one of the 
best acsess for most I would think, and Moors is the smallest amount of 
roads to map (In terms of density, although there very spread out).

Within the Lake District Grasmere sounds a good place as it in the center.  
I recon I would definatly take a tent, cause then riding out to the edges of 
the park wouldn't involve double the riding distance as I need to get back 
again, but instead camping where you end up would work out pretty well I 
think.

No idea about the dates, there way way to far away to have any idea what im 
doing.

P.S. well done to all those who mapped central London, the progress is 
really inpressive.
