Well, I know it doesn't answer your question, but a pedantic factual
correction - actually Garmin have finally this year released a POI
loader for Mac OS X, which you can find here
Just in case anyone else wants one...

To upload POIs to a garmin device you need the POI
Loader from garmin, it only runs on windows. Are there
any applications that can uploads POIs from linux?
