Whatever the merits or otherwise of this proposal, I rather think discussion
has missed the boat (or should I say plane).

Pretty much every significant airport has already been tagged with IATA and
ICAO tags. By request, name finder indexes these.

However, nearly all airports are tagged as both place=airport and
aeroway=airport (not aerodrome). Osmarender already recognises and renders
these (not sure which it is acting on). (Mapnik does not).

Since the names of tags and enumerated values are not that important, it
might be best simply to go with the flow rather than try to invent
alternatives, unless there's something particularly wrong with what's
already been done. (it's overloading place, but then we've seen recently
place is used much more inappropriately than this in other cases).

It wasn't me who did this airport tagging, by the way.
