Looking at the tracks, you cannot see how they are used, for 
example if they are used for tourist use only, or also for 
something else.  However, you can see which gauge they are. In any 
given country, there are typically only a few types of railway 
gauge.  One is "standard" for long distance public railroads.  
Others include older/narrow/museum tracks, city trams, and various 
kinds of local industrial tracks.

Here's a website of a guy who built a personal railroad, using 
rails from old peat bog industries.  This is more narrow (600 mm) 
than traditional "narrow gauge" (891 mm),
