You're right but as regards the abolishment of segments, we're past
the step of proposing and discussing things. We will get rid of
segments once we have the means to do so (i.e. we need someone to
make the changes in the API, people to change the major editors,
people to change the major renderers).
This is really something that's just waiting for implementation. It
may wait forever if nobody does it, but if somebody (or a group of
people) have the skills to do it, they will, without any further
discussion about the merits.
