I have tried looking at 15 meter panchromatic imagery, which I found at
http://geotorrent.org/, in QGIS, along with GPX files collected while
driving. The imagery was too coarse to effectively or easily map roads
with, at least at an urban scale. Maybe highways in the countryside
would be ok that way.
