With a little bit of prodding, Wigle (www.wigle.net) now recommends that
kismet users support Open Street Map.
Everytime a user uploads a logfile to Wigle, they will receive an
uploadconfirmation page, which includes this recommendation, a link to
the OSM main site, and a link to Christopher Schmidts exceptionally good
Kismet2gpx.py script.
Christopher, if you read this, could you please contact me, since wigle
would like to offer the script as download (or possibly make a online
converter), but won't do it untill the license of the script is clear.
A PD or attribution license included in the script at your site, would
do nicely.
Work is in progres, so Wigle can use OSM data for their webmaps
(http://wigle.net/gps/gps/Map/onlinemap2) outside of TIGER data
coverage, probably based on the planet.osm dumps, so as not to put
strain on the db/tile servers.
Work is also in progress so kismet users can utilize OSM (osmarender
layer only) as a mapsource in kismet's GPSMAP plotting utility
(http://www.die.net/doc/linux/man/man1/gpsmap.1.html), via OJW's
previously posted mapgenerator link.
