> I've been experimenting with a "building=" tag which I think may be worth putting into a formal Map Feature proposal. I've used it mostly on nodes but also on linear ways (building=terrace) and areal ways for mapping out the bounds of large buildings. So far I've been using building=house, farm, clubhouse, terrace.

erm. I think tagging linear ways may produce unexpected results, as
the difference between a linear way and an area way is implicit from
the tagging, and not from whether it joins up at the ends. There is a
proposed "area" tag on the wiki, which seems to be proposed as a way
of drawing turning circles (*yuk*), but *may* have some merit to clear
up the ambiguity between linear and area features. It needs much more
consideration and discussion though in that case.

I'm quite reluctant to start drawing in building outlines for what are
essentially additional street names that apply only to one side and/or
part of a real highway.

p.s. building already is a map features proposal:
