We have had in Map Feature since conception two specific cycle tags for the
uk's NCN. 

route=ncn and 
ncn_ref=N51 

There have been various discussions on a more detailed approach so a search
of the list archive should reveal a few ideas.

If in doubt, tag as you see fit for what works for you and suggest the
additions on the proposed features page.
