I've been wanting this for a while as well, so I've added a ticket to
JOSM's trac:
http://josm.eigenheimstrasse.de/ticket/148

I know that it's theoretically possible to do this by saving the OSM
file and reloading it into JOSM, but I want it to be part of JOSM itself
(or a plugin).
