[OSM-talk] Alternative placenames?

How have other people dealt with alternative placenames, where there
are two commonly used spellings in the same language?
The example I'm thinking of is Cregneash in the Isle of Man, which is
often spelled Cregneish (on some signposts and I think on some
Ordnance Survey maps, for example). I suspect it's just a name that's
changed over time, but as they are both used, they should probably
both be recorded on the place node.
I was thinking maybe something like name:en:alternative=Cregneish?
Cheers,
Dan
