I'll try to fix this in the rendering/import.
This is bound to happen in the normal course of things, and I'd rather
not remove information from the ways if we don't need to.

I would suggest leaving stuff as it is until potlatch and josm are
more route friendly.
There is currently a problem with what happens when a way is split etc.
Keep using them though, but keep an eye on them... it will be useful
to see what kind of problems we encounter so we know what to fix.
