[OSM-talk] OSM mobile binary protocol?

hi --

for generating RoadMap maps, i'm considering targetting the mobile
binary protocol 
    http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/OSM_Mobile_Binary_Protocol

is there any reason _not_ to do so?  i realize it's not finalized, but
i assume there's an expectation that it will be, correct?  the history
on the wiki page certainly implies that it's making good progress.

(i'm not yet on the developer list -- i suspect i should join...)
