I don't have the spare time at the moment to review this feature, though 
it sounds useful.

One suggestion that I do have: I don't understand exactly how someone 
managed to delete a large amount of data.  Could Potlatch maybe show 
some kind of warning before taking any action that affects more than, 
say, 30 nodes/segments?  Or refuse to do so until someone's ticked some 
"allow mass changes" option or so?  Basically, try to prevent users from 
accidentally doing things like this.  An Undo feature is then more of a 
secondary concern...

The same applies of course to JOSM or any other editor.  The problem is 
merely more acute with Potlatch because, as you say, it's the 
easy-to-use editor which newbies therefore do use.

Even though I rarely use Potlatch, I've left the Smiley as is, because I 
see its value to the project in enabling "drive-by" editing for people 
who just want to fix something without otherwise becoming involved with 
the project.
