Hi, Just been using the new josm, where some of the tools are merged with one another. At first I was alarmed, but thats just cuase its differnet! pretty cool
idea I think, although I was sceptical at first. It saves time for somethings but I have noticed otherthings seem to consume that time again. I'm wondering if
someone can take a look at these, and/or consider these suggestions/ have a bash at solving them...(I've considered them as a set, rather than individidually as they all seem to effect each other in the way you use them)
1* If I insert a node between 2 near ways they merge together. Ctrl clicking can stop this, but the node nolonger insearts if I hold ctrl. The ctl click is a good
idea, but I think it may be better if it merges when you hold ctrl and click but not if you don't. This way you don't make the mistake, then undo then hold ctrl
and redo it. It would save many clicks.
2* (This may just be in windows) I'm having some difficulty creating way-segments. If I select a node and then hit 'n' and drag between, only sometimes a
new way-segment appears. I'm not shore why, It may be the catchment zone I need to let go of the cursor in is quite specific?. I'm averaging about 1 in 5
successfully though sadly. I think this could be avoided, (as well as having a more easily reachable shortcut) if holding n allows you to create elements. So if
I hold n while dragging between them it makes a way-segment, and if I click randomly while hold n it creates a node, but otherwise the new tool works as is.
3* The move/select tools being merged has made it quite tricky to select a very small area as it thinks I'm trying to move a nearby node. I'm not shore what
to suggest for this one though.
4* If I create/insert a node, I first need to deselect before I can move. On creation it appears fixed. Ideally on creation it could be moveable as it would be
on selection usually.
5* In creating a way without deselecting, no matter how complex or messy the shape is, it will make it all one way. Incorrectly orderered ways and ways
with way-segments facing in different directions can be created this way. It may help if when ever you create a way and use a node for more than 2
way-segments then any additional connections are new ways. If way circles around on itself then the circle should split into a seperate way also. This
should help?...maybe..!.
If I am editing incorrectly, and there are current easy way's to do these things that I havn't yet worked out can someone tell me!?
It may be nice if all this was an option also. I think most people will adapt and get used to it, but some people may wish to have the seperate tools still. Not
shore about myself.
Since I'm emailing about josm, can I request if posible, that there is a short cut added for enabling/disabling directional arrows?..that would be super handy!
Finally, Thanks for making none tagged (or only created_by/fixme tagged) ways as green. Really _Really_ helpful! I was having great difficulty before.
Thanks!
Ben
