I've had problems with canals that are probably related - at this location:

A canal crosses a motorway on an aqueduct - so the appropriate section
of canal is tagged with the correct layer and bridge=yes. I see that
the latest osmarender treats the layering correctly, which is new, but
the bridge itself is not rendered.

This isn't so bad in the example mentioned (though people might
distrust the layering shown), but it's a mess when you have a canal
crossing a river, as in:
