I would like riverbanks to work the same way as coastlines. That is,
everything to the right of it is water until the opposite riverbank.

Now that we have relations, we could have a relation with
natural=river referencing the ways that form the banks. They could
have roles "left_shore" and "right shore". But I have no idea how easy
that would be to implement in osmarender or mapnik.
