The MassGIS data import started last Monday by Brandon Martin-Anderson
and I completed this morning, and I was able to load the recent planet and
get it displaying:
http://labs.metacarta.com/osm/?zoom=7&lat=5185183.89944&lon=-8007844.00357&layers=B00
This shows a great view of the state of Massachusetts, and the 'empty'
around it :)
A couple of cool things:
http://labs.metacarta.com/osm/?zoom=12&lat=5186055.75909&lon=-7910441.75273&layers=B00
shows the subway stations (and lines) in/around Boston.
http://labs.metacarta.com/osm/?zoom=14&lat=5183839.08575&lon=-7907379.49495&layers=B00
Shows the airport light rail in/around Boston (which is actually a Bus,
but it's the closest we've got :))
http://labs.metacarta.com/osm/?zoom=12&lat=5190479.55115&lon=-7917182.5417&layers=B00
Shows a bunch of cyclepaths around Somerville.
We're far from done with the GIS data the state has to offer, but we've
already got a relatively impressive view of the state in OSM, and we'll
continue to upload more data.
http://www.mass.gov/mgis/laylist.htm
lists some of the layers that the state GIS agency provides --
everything from building footprints to prisons, greenspace and waterways
to colleges and libraries. Slowly but surely, we're going to get all this
stuff in there.
(Technical discussion of uploads, etc. will continue on dev.)
I want to say thank you to all the people who have helped turn OSM into
the great project it is these days: it would not have been possible to
complete what we have in this little time even a couple months ago. So
many thank yous to all the people who have helped make the tools and
server and API and so on so much better over the past several months!
Regards,
