[OSM-talk] Off line OSM editing application with scrolling map for use in remote areas

Hello everyone,

Got the feeling that this was discussed at SOTM but I can't remember the
exact software that was discussed.

Someone I know has an idea of doing OSM mapping in remote parts of Africa
where there is no internet access, using a laptop or possibly PDA. The
idea is, all the OSM data for the area would be pre-loaded into the
application before they go, then while they're out there they construct
OSM data offline as they're travelling round. As they move round, if
there is a GPS unit plugged into the laptop the map could scroll.

There would also need to be some system of uploading all the new data when
they return to avoid conflicts.

Is anyone working in this area?

Thanks,
Nick
