I'm pretty sure you implemented "multipolygon" support yourself, by
simply treating all ways inside a multipolygon relationship as if they
were disjunct parts of the same way, and thus exactly replicating the
old behaviour!

Or was that someone else?

This means that while it is true that we'd meanwhile like relation
members to be tagged "outer" and "inner", for them to look right in
Osmarender you should (also) make sure that (like in olden times) the
outer ring runs in a different direction than the inner ring(s).

In the long run it would make sense to tag (only) the relation I
think, but we're not there yet; currently you need to tag the ways
(only).
