The Ctrl key makes the popup sticky.  As long as you hold Ctrl, and 
don't click anything else, it should stay up.  "Middle"-click, press and 
hold Ctrl, release mouse button(s), hover and left-click the segment you 
want.

Btw, some mouse (and touchpad) drivers have an option (& some just do it 
automatically) for 'chording' the middle button - in other words, 
pressing both left and right at the same time produces a middle-click.
