Yeah. There's also the issue that openlayers wants to load all the
markers at once, which is ok for just a few but doesn't scale,
obviously. I have ideas about loading them the way we do tiles
currently, but that requires some thought.

As for the zoom thing, theoretically the icons could be scaled also
but really it just needs to be handled by zoom. If you zoom far enough
out you should at most see specs where there is something...

Indeed. This can also be extended to people marking areas saying: I've
done this bit completely. Most of it's a SMOP (Simple Matter Of
Programming) but it takes time...
