Note: Any canal measurements which are in feet and inches are given as 
"\d+ft( \d+in)?". That is, a number, followed by "ft" as an 
abbreviation, a space, and then optionally a number and "in".

(This is as opposed to <5"4'>, <5 foot 4 inches> or any other of the 
many possible variations.)
