At least in my part of the world Mapnik does that for quite some time
now. Osmarender only measured up.

But somehow Mapnik seems to sense the additional node an doesn't display
two icons.

I think differently. I think this is a great feature, always liked it in
Mapnik and am glad to see it in Osmarender as well now.

We had the discussion before if parking-areas should have icons on their
own or only the additional node. As this makes an explicit node obsolete
(and does a fine job doing so) I see no reason why to stick to the old
arguments.

Personally I'd like to see icons on even more areas like soccer or
tennis field, townhalls and supermarkets. Actually every feature where
the icon is now only rendered on nodes.
