Hi!

I'm sorry if some of you have received the invitation too many times..
I'm not planning to post it to other OSM mailing lists, I thought that
dev and talk would cover most of the people who would be interested in
this. And I might have done wrong trying to use these lists to reach
people who develope GPS software, like tangogps, viking and so on..
Sorry for that. I wasn't actually directing the mail to osm devels or
users but people who use/develop foss gps software - I thought these
two lists would be pretty good to reach some of those.

It's great that JOSM & osm in generally have their own mailing lists.
The purpose of floss-gps was to help users to follow & communicate
with the developers & other users without the need to join many
different lists - and therefore I think it'd be nice if someone from
the projects would join the list just to see if there is some
discussion about their project on this list.

It's also great that OSM doesn't make a distinction between the
project and community. It's sad, but some projects do make a clear
difference between the userbase or the community and the project or
the developers: they don't have the means for the users and developers
to communicate nor do the developers release up-to-date source codes
(expect when a new stable release is made) so it makes it very hard
for the users to become part of the project - it's the 'cathedral' way
of developing software.. I find this very bad so I want to make it as
easy as possible to break this barrier (-> bazaar).

But we're all free to make choices. Frederik, I respect your choice of
not joining the list, if you think that's the best for your project(s)
or (j)osm. In case you become interested, you're also free to chance
your mind and join the list.

No hard feelings.

r

(there are about 70 people on the list only after 40 hours after it
was created. I guess that means that some people are interested)
