some gps traces are pretty poor. urban canyoning, poor-resolution gps
units, and other variables make it hard to judge if the traces are
correct or not

some of the OSM data has glaring mistakes

also, i'm slightly confused as to how this helps us merge two data
sets? sorry, maybe i'm being a bit slow
