I don't know about PPC, but I just got it working on Mac OSX 10.4  
Tiger on Intel.

I installed soylatte, set the PATH and JAVA_HOME variables, and was  
able to run it.  You need to open X11 first and run josm from the X11  
term window, but it then works fine.
